| Welcome to the Queens Royal West Surrey 2nd Volunteer Battalion Reenactment Society website.
We have been running since 2004, and were previously known as the Henley Fort Young Persons Enactment Society.
We were set up by Surrey County Council with an aim to educate young people in the area of Surrey and to teach the public about the Volunteer regiments who are largly unknown these days.
With so many more reenactment groups forming to show the regular red-coat British victorian soldier, the Volunteers are an unusual choice but one that we feel is an important part of our heritage. We chose the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment as they were local to Guildford, and this is where we are based.
 |
| We represent the Queen's Royal West Surrey 2nd Volunteer Battalion between 1881 and 1901 just before the
death of Queen Victoria. The volunteer's would have trained about twice a year
at camps in the local area and these were often popular community
events, with townspeople coming from miles around to watch friends and
family members in training.
The Volunteer Force was a citizen army of part-time rifle regiments created in 1859. These units of volunteers became increasingly integrated with the regular army after the Childers reforms in 1881, eventually forming part of the territorial army in 1908. Most of the regiments of the present territorial army are directly descended from Volunteer Force units.
